Wow, saxophone fans! Check out this truly unique alto that just arrived at the shop! This is a 40xxx Selmer Super Balanced Action alto with some standout features. At some point, this alto was relacquered, but the work was done exceptionally well. The American engraving on the bell shows minimal buffing, so much of the original detail remains sharp and crisp. A plastic thumb hook, similar to those on a Mark VI, has been soldered in place of the original SBA brass thumb hook. Additionally, this horn came to us without its original neck. Instead, it’s paired with a Mark VI neck, which, while not serial-stamped, has a lacquer color that complements the horn nicely. As shown in the photographs, the previous owner opted for custom engraving on this horn. The bell keys, side keys, neck, and several other areas are adorned with Selmer-like floral engravings. While not factory-original, this engraving beautifully complements the horn’s existing design. The alto is fitted with an older but functional set of pads. Each pad has been carefully inspected to ensure they’re sealing and performing as they should.
